Issue with the boot drive/SSD vanishing unexpectedly during startup in BIOS after logging in.
Here’s a revised version of your text:
The issue has persisted despite these images.
If necessary, I apologize for any formatting errors in this thread.
The situation is as follows:
- After days of inactivity, I power on the computer.
- It starts up into Windows without apparent problems.
- Within a minute or two, the entire system freezes, with the mouse becoming unresponsive last.
- A blue screen appears each time, displaying various error messages, indicating that the drive has disappeared. (The exact details of the BSOD aren’t crucial since they seem linked to the device vanishing.)
- The system restarts.
- It redirects me to the BIOS instead of Windows, where the boot drive is missing.
- Other storage devices appear normal.
- It only returns after I completely shut down and restart the computer.
- Windows launches normally, even when logged in, and sometimes for several days before it works again.
Additional notes:
- Crystaldisk reports that the SSD is functioning properly.
- This problem began after installing a new GPU (the one shown in the pictures). I experienced different issues with the previous one.
- I’ve changed ports multiple times and even swapped the SATA cable.
- My Windows installation is somewhat outdated, but I’ve repeatedly used DISM, chkdsk, and sfc to fix it successfully.
- I’ve used DDU to uninstall old drivers, even in safe mode.
- I don’t have any viruses detected.
- This motherboard or CPU has previously caused issues with my device, but only after a BIOS update and testing on other machines (I’ve swapped in and out).
- I haven’t tried another Windows version, as this is rare enough to test thoroughly but frequent enough to be frustrating. It would require significant effort—potentially weeks or months—to resolve, especially since last time I reinstalled Windows it didn’t fix the problem.
- I have backups, but I’d rather not use them, as they all relate to this incident.
- Nearly every component on my PC (except the CPU and motherboard) has been replaced with new or healthy units, except for the drives.
- I’m open to fixing the installation using an external USB and command prompt, but I need help with the commands. I’m not ready to reinstall.
I’ll share more details if needed; I’m really hoping this gets resolved. Also, I’m concerned it could worsen further...
Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
Are you using the board at https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/B65...-V2-rev-1x? If yes,
https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/B65...support#dl
I notice the BIOS version F34a isn't listed in their support section. This is probably because the BIOS was still in alpha and considered unstable for live use. Instead, ensure you have the latest chipset drivers for your motherboard, flash the BIOS to F36, reset the CMOS, and check if the problem remains.
For reference, it's helpful to provide your specifications in this format:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
RAM:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
Include the PSU age along with its make and model. BIOS version for your board at this time.
^ This keeps things clear and straightforward; apps can't determine your PSU details.
