Issue with the boot drive
Issue with the boot drive
I purchased a new SSD (Kingston Q500 240GB) and installed Windows 10 custom. When trying to boot from BIOS, the SSD wasn't recognized. I managed to boot via Windows Boot Manager but not through BIOS. After connecting the SSD and HDD, my BIOS now detects the SSD and allows selection as boot drive. However, when I try to select it, I encounter a prompt asking to reboot and choose the correct boot device. Once I do that, it boots smoothly in Windows Boot Manager, but this process is lengthy and goes against the purpose of using an SSD. Could you offer any advice or solutions?
The Windows installer detected an existing boot manager on the HDD and integrated itself instead of creating a new one on the SSD. To prevent this, disconnect all drives except the one you're installing before proceeding.
This storage device lacks a drive interface, making it unsuitable for use as the operating system installation medium. It's strongly discouraged for this purpose.
It's not advised as it will become sluggish over time, and it can lead to major problems, though that's not certain. If you're after a fast OS drive that lasts long, this isn't the right choice. You should opt for a reliable SSD with DRAM cache. Edit: if possible, I'd consider returning it and getting a crucial MX500 instead—it's similarly priced and includes DRAM cache. (Just make sure it's the MX model; crucial drives without DRAM can be risky)
