Issue with system starting after gigabyte control center upgrade
Hello once more, I'm back in Tom's forums seeking assistance once again regarding my home-built system. My setup includes an i7 137000k processor, 32 GB of Corsair CMK32GX5M2A4800C40 RAM, an MSI 6950XT GPU, and a pair of 1 TB SSDs along with a Gigabyte Z790 UD AC motherboard. The system performed well until I installed the Gigabyte Z790 UD AC BIOS update. A major mistake was made, and now I understand what happened.
Following the update, my PC displayed a BIOS error screen, making it impossible to use the mouse or keyboard. After rebooting, I saw a blank screen, then after a few minutes a blank one appeared again. Eventually, I rebooted and a Gigabyte ultra durable screen appeared, but nothing changed. I kept rebooting until it finally showed a blank screen once more.
I noticed the small motherboard error LEDs were lit, and the amber VGA LED was on. Additionally, I had recently locked my motherboard admin account, hoping this wouldn't cause further complications.
The GCC update also involved changing the BIOS from version 8 to 9. I attempted to download the previous working BIOS onto a USB drive and installed it using the Q Flash utility, but it didn't work.
I've already shared my issue with Gigabyte's support, but it was some time ago and I'm now frustrated with the waiting. I really value any advice or suggestions from the Tom's community. Thank you.
Hey there,
To reset the CMOS after the bios update, you can use this guide: https://mcgrp.ru/files/viewer/918688/32
Tell us how it turns out.
The GCC update was about the BIOS F10 update. If it was that, then ...yeah. I don't think updating or flashing the BIOS is necessary since everything is working fine.
Edit - I have the z790 UD. I noticed the BIOS update was offered but I didn't check it and left it alone.
😀
Edit 2 - Okl nvm, I re-read your post and see the question is answered.
I don't think you ever have to do it. Just leave the update unchecked.
The only reason to flash BIOS is frankly when someone on this forum tells you to update your BIOS xD
Or after first booting a newly built PC.
Otherwise, if everything is working there is no reason to take risks. BIOS flashing is always a little bit risky.
Other GCC updates and drivers are fine to install.
Great! Success is coming your way.
Keep going and enjoy the game!
