I'm having trouble starting from a USB drive with Windows 10. I've downloaded the installation files to my main hard drive, but whenever I try to boot from the USB it freezes at the boot menu and I can't do anything except power off and restart. Any advice would be appreciated!

What specifications do you have? Are you looking for a USB 3.0 connection?

Consider using an additional USB drive. What system are you attempting to start? It's difficult to determine without more information.

It's only a USB 2.0 port. You have a PC with 4 GB DDR3 RAM, a Core i5-3470 processor, and 500 GB of storage.

You're trying to install Windows 10 from a USB drive without using fast boot options, but you're encountering issues. It might help to try removing the fast boot feature entirely or using a different installation method such as a live USB. If that doesn't work, consider formatting the USB and then installing the OS manually.

Most computers react negatively to USB 3.0 ports, so I checked to be sure. I planned to reformat the USB drive using the Windows Media Creation utility available from Microsoft. This is my preferred method and it consistently works (though it fails when I use a USB 3.0 port or an unresponding port).

I don’t possess a Windows CD, only a USB drive with all the required downloads. And yes, I can do that.
