Issue with RTX 3080 at high temperature Overheating problem reported when reaching 83°C
Hello everyone, the main point is clear from the title. My system freezes during heavy use (gaming). I wasn’t sure why but thought it might be related to the GPU and power supply unit. After installing MSI Afterburner, I noticed a strong link between temperature spikes and crashes. Usually, when my GPU hits around 83°C, it shuts down. When the system fails, the GPU lights turn off (indicating "GEFORCE RTX"), the screen goes black completely, but I can still hear the game and Discord for a short time after. After that, I can’t press certain keys in the game, even though I know from sound I should be able to. I don’t think these temperatures are normal under the load I’m putting on my system, and even though it’s typical to see those readings, I shouldn’t be experiencing crashes like this. Right now I’m lowering the clock speed and keeping the room cool, but I’m not sure what else I can do or how to fix it. P.S. Nvidia doesn’t offer warranty in my area, and after many unhelpful conversations with a representative, no one seemed to assist effectively.
The temperature could simply reflect a related cause rather than being the main reason. Your GPU tends to warm up during higher power usage, and the increased power consumption might be leading to instability.
