Issue with reducing voltage on the 7700x model
Hello. I've experimented with reducing the CPU voltage using this guide https://youtu.be/FaOYYHNGlLs. The thermal limits stayed at negative 30 degrees. Results were consistent during Cinebench (no crashes, improved performance). No issues in games either. I ran "CoreCycler" to stress every core, but after the second iteration I shut down the console and my cooler made a loud noise—like it was testing one core only. Then I stopped running "Prime95" since it kept active. I tried OCCT for further checks. Initial settings worked fine for about 15 minutes. After switching to advanced threads, I noticed errors on Core 1 but not others. I adjusted the BIOS setting "Curve Optimizer" to per-core and changed magnitude to 20. Then I returned to OCCT for another test. Same performance, but now I faced errors on Core 7 during stressing. It kept failing despite high stress levels. I observed that Core 7 was ranked as the fastest (perf #1/2), while Core 0 (perf #7/8) ran at higher speeds. This made me confused—why would Core 7 be slower even though it was the top? I kept getting errors, but surprisingly, stressing all cores still caused problems on Core 7. It’s puzzling and I’m unsure what to do next. Have you noticed similar issues? Could the problem be related to the core scheduler? Should I ignore these errors or should I consider returning the CPU and buying a new one? Thank you for your help—I really appreciate it.
You're asking why someone would want to lower the voltage beforehand. If you plan to exchange it, just get the 7700 non-X version instead.
Undervolting reduces temperatures while minimizing noise, and it also offers a modest boost in clock speed. That seemed like a good idea to try.
Using Ryzen Master during stress tests helped fine-tune my settings. I wouldn’t have stayed patient enough to restart the PC constantly—it does take time to really get it right. Once you’re close, it’s actually pretty fast.
Start with a standard test and then adjust Ryzen Master settings on Windows. Record your notes after each change. Verify performance using Cinebench or similar tools—undervolting can affect results. After configuring in BIOS, bring voltage back to stock levels for baseline accuracy. Run a stress test for at least two hours, extending longer if needed to ensure stability.
You're asking about the specific parameter used in the Curve Optimizer, specifically its magnitude setting within the advanced view.
