Question - Has anyone encountered a problem with the AMD 9600X, B850, and Gigabyte RTX 5060 together? It appears to be a well-known setup, yet it isn’t functioning properly for me, and I’m struggling to resolve it.
I’ve assembled a new machine for a family member, but it’s encountering unusual behavior. This is likely my tenth or more build over the last twenty years, so I’m fairly experienced.
The problem:
GPU instability, game crashes, occasional system restarts.
Configuration details:
CPU: AMD 9600X
CPU cooler: Watercooling, coolermaster AIO
Motherboard: ASRock B850 Lightning (BIOS 3.15 and 3.30, same issue)
RAM: Corsair 32GB DDR5 (configured to PC 4800 and 6400 via XMP profile, same issues)
Storage: Samsung EVO 2TB
GPU options: GIGABYTE RTX 5060 and PNY RTX 5060 TI (same issues) and ASUS RTX 4070 (no issues)
Power supply: Corsair SFF850
Chassis: Lian Li A4 H2O
Operating system: Windows 11
Monitor: Multiple displays
Previous troubleshooting steps:
1. Swapped the GPU in this build, it worked perfectly. I have an RTX 4070 for my own PC, so I installed it here. It performed flawlessly for as long as I tested it. Ran games, benchmarks (userbenchmark, Unreal Engine tests, FurMark), etc., and scores were above average.
2. Tested the problematic GPU on a different system, and it also functioned well. Then I placed the 5060 in an Intel-based machine, with no issues. Games and benchmarks worked normally; userbenchmark scores were average.
3. Updated the 5060 firmware according to NVIDIA support and upgraded the ASRock motherboard to version 3.30. No improvement in performance.
4. Inspected all power cables and connections—everything seemed normal.
I’m unsure what else to check. I’m considering returning the GPU or switching to another model, but I’m limited by my $300 budget for the graphics card.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Configuration details:
AMD 9600x
AsRock B850 Lightning
Corsair 32gb DDR5 RAM
When sharing a troubleshooting thread, it's standard to provide your complete system specifications. Please list them as follows:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
Include the PSU age along with its make and model. BIOS version for your motherboard at this time.
Just a note, avoid ASRock boards when building around the AM5 platform due to recent BIOS issues.

@Lutfij
makes a good point in regards to Asrock's recent issues. Aside from some unusual firmware issue, there is not compatibility issue, in general, between the CPU, motherboard chipset, and GPU. As
@nayrhyno
indicated this is a fairly common combo.
