Issue with PowerPower USB 3.0 Hub functioning through KVM or KVM Extender devices
I recently purchased a Powered USB 3.0 Hub from Amazon (link below) and have been attempting to connect various peripherals using a KVM (link below) that I have on my desk, as well as a KVM Extender (link below) for the TV in my living room. For simplicity, all tests were conducted with either the KVM or the KVM Extender connected directly - never both simultaneously. The keyboard and mouse function through the KVM USB ports, but my webcam, DS4 via USB cable, and Bluetooth adapter dongle do not connect via these ports. After that, I bought a Powered USB 3.0 Hub, which works properly with any device when plugged straight into the PC. I connected it to the wall power outlet (in both office and living room), then to the KB or Mouse port on either KVM, and again only my mouse and keyboard responded. I tested each device individually using every USB port on the hub, but nothing functioned. Could anyone explain why this isn’t working as expected? Please let me know if you have any suggestions.
it's conceivable your KVM might miss it if the powered USB hub doesn't supply 5V from KVM. If you don't see the USB hub in Device Manager when connected to KVM, there may be no solution... perhaps adding a resistor on the 5V rail inside KVM could help detect something and activate USB data transfer.
The issue seems related to the USB hub configuration rather than a complete chain problem. You can connect your mouse directly to the hub, then link the hub to the KVM, which should resolve connectivity. If this doesn't work, consider using an additional device like a USB extender over Ethernet for better compatibility.
I calculated the chip on the PCB for the KVM Extender and it supports USB 2.0, but the device converts one port into a USB 1.1 hub, which is not useful.
