You're starting your PC build for the first time. You have an Asus Prime Z270-A with a 3060 processor, an Aerocool Lux 550W fan, an i5-8400 chipset, a 2TB HDD, a 500GB SSD, and 16GB RAM. When you power it on, only the RGB lighting activates on the motherboard, and the power supply seems inactive. Need assistance?

The statement refers to a situation where no activity is detected from the PSU. If the lights turn on, it means the PSU is supplying power. The initial step should be inspecting and properly reattaching all power connections in the setup. Ignoring to connect the EPS power cable for the CPU is a very frequent error among new users.

Is this the EPs cable? The lack of action means the PSU fan isn't running.

The RGB begins immediately once you connect power, not after pressing the power button.

I should have checked the specs first. Your CPU doesn't fit with your motherboard. There are two versions of LGA 1151 that look alike but work differently. You won't be able to start the system. You'll need a newer board or an older CPU.

It looks like the system confirmed compatibility. Just double-checked, and the motherboard and CPU match the required specifications. Updated on December 28, 2023 by Jack120807.

"Hey," I reread my message. There were actually two LGA 1151 versions. The first ones were for 100 and 200-series chipsets, working with 6th and 7th generation CPUs. The second set was for 300 and 400-series chipsets, supporting 8th and 9th generation CPUs. To be fair, it was Intel's decision.
