Issue with pfSense setup and performance.
Hello. I just installed pfSense on Hyper-V. My setup looks like this: ISP → ISP router → pfSense. I can reach the LAN on the ISP router, but I can't access the internet. The ISP router seems fine. I've tried changing DNS and other settings. Anyone know where to go?
Assuming your ISP router is a combined router/modem, have you configured it for bridge mode?
It doesn't include that feature. I'm using a private IP from the ISP router as the WAN on PFSSL. The unusual part is I can access the internet through the PFSSL LAN and the ISP routers LAN. Yes, I've disabled the setting that blocks private networks.
You're describing a network configuration where the ISP modem connects to an ISP router, which then links to a Hyper-V server running Pfsense within a virtual machine, and this setup is connected via a LAN.
You're asking about the routing setup. It would be better to use the ISP's modem directly for the firewall port on the pfSense device, and then connect the LAN port to your switch or devices. This avoids unnecessary NAT steps.
Check your setup for internet access via the ISP router's LAN port. For connecting devices to PFSense in a virtualized environment, ensure proper configuration and networking setup.
