Hi everyone,

System specs: AMD Ryzen 9 9900X processor, Arctic Liquid Freezer III RGB 360mm cooler, Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR5 6000MHz 2x32GB RAM, GIGABYTE X870 Aorus Elite Wifi7 ICE motherboard, MSI GeForce RTX 3060 - 12G Gaming graphics card, Corsair CS650M power supply, SSDs 990 PRO 1TB M.2 and 980 PRO 500GB M.2, NZXT 120mm rear fan, additional fans underneath, and three NZXT 120mm models. Housing: NZXT H6 Flow case.

I recently assembled a new build a few days ago and have encountered some persistent issues. During startup, I encountered codes 15 and 46, followed by flashing, but the monitor screen remained black. I believe code 15 is linked to RAM problems, while code 46 remains unclear. I experimented with swapping RAM modules in and out, but the system would boot with one stick but not the other. Interestingly, when I reinserted RAM into the original slots, it worked perfectly. However, after shutting down, it failed to boot at all. This inconsistency is puzzling.

I reviewed the forum guide on the pinned post and tried to follow the instructions, but I’m seeking further guidance if possible. The PC functions normally during startup, yet the issue keeps recurring every time I power on it. All components seem compatible, and the BIOS is up to date.

I also noticed wiring under the motherboard, which might be a concern. Since code 15 relates to memory, I’m unsure whether changing it would help.

Please share any advice or solutions you have.

Thank you,
Lewis

Some motherboards need the initial RAM slot to be filled with a particular type of memory.
This particular board?
https://download.gigabyte.com/FileL...10...9ff802687e
[Make sure you locate the relevant User Manual.]
According to Section 2-4, Page 15:
"When installing memory modules, ensure you place them in the DDR5_A2 socket first."
Give it a try.

Pre-memory North-Bridge setup begins.
3F~4F
Reserved.
From here: https://bestofmotherboard.com/gigabyte-m...led-fixed/
possibly updated gigabyte motherboard q codes are available
the memory might be in the incorrect slot(s)

It might be possible that my memory speed is 400mHz faster than what I thought for my processor. The AMD website lists support up to 5600, but the details here seem different. Would resetting CMOs and taking out the battery make a difference?

Hi there,
Yes, that's the right motherboard. I installed it properly. It seems the processor max speed only goes up to 5600 mHz, while my RAM is 6000. Would this affect the inconsistent booting problems I've been experiencing?

The motherboard accommodates speeds up to 8200(oc)
Your experience depends on the specific memories it uses, not just the speed.

Hi everyone,

System details: AMD Ryzen 9 9900X processor, Arctic Liquid Freezer III RGB 360mm cooler, Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR5 6000MHz 2x32GB CL30 RAM, GIGABYTE X870 AORUS Elite WiFi7 ICE motherboard, MSI GeForce RTX 3060 12G Gaming graphics card, Corsair CS650M power supply, 990 PRO 1TB M.2 NVMe SSD, additional SSD 980 PRO 500GB M.2 NVMe, and several NZXT rear fans.

I recently assembled a new build using online purchases for most components except the GPU and PSU. I've encountered booting problems for a few days now. The motherboard displays various error codes and a red light between DRAM and CPU during startup. Common codes I see are: 15, 46, and 08. Sometimes it shows A0 when Windows boots.

I've tried changing RAM slots one at a time, booting with single sticks, resetting CMOS, but nothing has resolved the issue. The biggest concern is inconsistent startup—my screen stays black about 80% of the time, then occasionally I get a boot and the PC runs normally, though the error codes remain visible.

I know my RAM was advertised at 6000MHz and running above the maximum supported by AMD. I disabled EXPO and pushed back the release, but the same problems persist. The 08 code suggests insufficient CPU power, so I suspect the RAM speeds might be too high for the chipset, even though my motherboard supports them.

My PSU is a Corsair CS650M, which could also be contributing to the issues. Should I upgrade to a non-beta BIOS for better stability? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Lewis

Hey, I’ve got an old power supply, the Corsair CS650M, and it might be causing the boot issues I’m seeing. Anything from Corsair with a green label is probably a problem. I’d recommend replacing it right away with a more reliable unit that can handle 750W. Stick to one thread unless you’re looking for confusion.
