Issue with PC not posting following power failure.
Hey guys, I just built a new gaming computer on Christmas and it worked well for the first couple of days. But during a power outage that kept flickering, the fans started spinning but the system wouldn’t boot. From checking similar cases, I’ve tried resetting the CMOS, reinserting RAM one at a time, and even replacing the PSU or motherboard at BestBuy. The new build includes a Corsair RM750e instead of the original PSU, and the same motherboard (MSI B450M-A Pro Max II). I’ve tried all these fixes but it still doesn’t boot. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Is your CPU equipped with built-in graphics? You might want to consider using that instead of the GPU, as the GPU could be preventing it from appearing as it should during POST. Also, make sure all the extra case I/O connections on the motherboard are disconnected. During power spikes, a USB port can often fail and create a short circuit at startup, possibly involving one of the front I/O daughterboards. It's possible the CPU itself was damaged, but you should test each component individually.
Make sure you have at least three hardware components ready for testing. CPU, Memory, GPU. Keep your hard drive unplugged during testing. I was just trying to boot into BIOS. I would try parts out of the case on a table. As mentioned before, remove the GPU if the CPU has an integrated graphics. If you can, then focus on CPU and memory.
I just sent back the motherboard for the MSI B550-A Pro since it has the EZ debug LED. Now when I start the system, the debug lights flash briefly before turning off completely, which makes me think the PSU might be faulty. However, the new motherboard I received from Best Buy shows no issues, so I’m puzzled as to why this would be the case. Since the PSU is brand new and I purchased it after a power outage when the system stopped working, I’m unsure what could be causing this problem. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
