Issue with PC freezing during CS2 playthrough and game stuttering on a fresh 9800x3d configuration
Hello everyone,
I’m facing two issues with my CS2 setup or PC. I’m feeling frustrated and disappointed since it’s a brand new build. Below, I’ll explain more about my system, the settings I’ve changed, and what I’ve tried to resolve the problems.
Problem 1: The game runs at high FPS (around 450 to 700, varying by map and location). My ping is stable, but I experience unusual stuttering while moving, jumping, or exploring. This occurs during spikes in MS (near the FPS counter, likely due to input lag). Normally, MS stays between 2 to 5, yet it jumps to 10-20 and causes noticeable stuttering. Sometimes it even reaches 80 or 100, leading to frame skips.
Problem 2: Occasionally, this issue happens a few times a week, but it completely freezes the PC. While playing CS2, the FPS drops below 10, MS spikes to 700-800, and ping jumps to 200. My Discord becomes unresponsive, making alt+tab take about 20 seconds. The PC appears to recover after around 20-30 seconds, but it doesn’t restart or reset properly. Resource usage in Task Manager remains unchanged. All temperatures are normal.
Setup details:
- Motherboard: Gigabyte B850 Aorus Elite wifi7
- CPU: Ryzen 9800x3d
- RAM: G.skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB 32 GB 6000-CL30
- Power Supply: Corsair RM850x 2024 ATX 3.1
- SSD: Samsung 990 PRO 1TB
- Case: Phanteks xt pro ultra
- GPU: Gigabyte 3080Ti Aorus
- Monitor: 27-inch 2K res 160Hz
- Mouse: Razer DeathAdder V2 Pro (wireless)
- Keyboard: Razer Huntsman Mini
Everything is new except the GPU, which I received from a friend without any problems. The PC was assembled about 20 days ago, and I’ve been attempting to fix these issues ever since.
Note: I also tried playing PUBG, LoL, Apex Legends – no similar problems there.
What I attempted to resolve:
- Removed the game bar completely
- Deleted G-game and Razer software (an old post suggesting they might be causing the issues)
- Enabled Performance mode on all devices – adjusted power management, set CS2 to high priority
- Adjusted Nvidia 3D settings multiple times
- Tested with Reflex on/off
- Used all in-game settings (Low resolution, etc.) – still no improvement
- Cleared the cache – sometimes fixes Problem 1 for a few games, but it reappears
- Disabled hardware acceleration for GPU scheduling
I’ve almost forgotten most of the changes I made. Most of the solutions I found online didn’t really help. My confidence is low because the game ran much better on a less powerful PC before.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I built this machine specifically for CS2, and it’s really frustrating.
Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
My ping is normal and steady, but I experience this odd stuttering while moving, peaking, or looking around.
It might help to add a video of the problem you're describing.
What BIOS version does your motherboard have? Which driver version are you using for your GPU?
Hello!
I saw a similar problem on Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/csgo/comments/1..._and_ping/
The BIOS is the newest version from Gigabyte. I tried using the latest GPU driver, then switched back to version 551.61, which was a bit better but still had issues.
Hey, I’ve been experiencing the same problem as outlined in problem 2 and believe I’ve already tried all the fixes. Did you manage to locate the answer? It’s really frustrating. I also share the same CPU and motherboard, so I suspect the root cause lies there.
