Issue with overheating on your laptop under Windows settings.
Hello! I've been working to enable high-end gaming on my laptop for four days now. My focus is mainly on Lossless Scaling, as that's what makes Windows appealing to me. I usually run Linux, but this Optimus machine comes with its own drivers. The game I'm testing is Black Myth: Wukong across all settings. Even at Low Windows settings it stutters heavily, dropping to just 18 FPS for long periods. On Linux it runs perfectly. I typically play on DX11 with Cinematic settings and 70% DLSS. My machine's specs are listed in the benchmark chart below. The adjustments I've made so far include setting the dGPU from Nvidia Control Center, updating Intel drivers to the latest stable, enabling Performance Profiles in both the laptop control panel and Windows settings, and installing Windows X-Lite. I ran a test using Zen Browser and Steam after these changes. This is my first fresh Windows X-Lite 24H2 v4 install. Any suggestions or fixes for Windows would be greatly appreciated—I really need to use Lossless Scaling X4 FG to hit 144 Hz in the game. Top performance on Linux, bottom on Windows.
It seems the system is running hot in Windows, as confirmed by the Windows subreddit and a Mastodon user. On Linux (Nobara) it performs well. I'm planning to return home soon, so I'll test more on Linux with my laptops. I might try gaming there and experiment with Lossless Scaling on my desktop. Thanks for the tip! I'll also try Exclusive Fullscreen later.
I have the same issue on my main laptop which is an Asus Zephyrus Duo 2023 (7945HX and 4090M). The laptop doesn't overheat unless streaming/recording but then the problem is pretty intense. Also even while not overheating it performs worse than Linux with FF XVI getting around 14000 while Linux get about 16000 while recording. Here is a video with a Linux vs Windows comparison on it. Any advice of how this can be remedied is welcome. Armoury Crate is set to Turbo on the CPU and Ultimate on GPU (which means only the dGPU is used through MUX).
This resembles the ccd parking problems mentioned for desktop setups. Consider following the suggested steps. A more stock Windows installation might be necessary to obtain the required parts. https://community.amd.com/t5/gaming/how-...a-p/589464
I finally understood it. OBS caused the overheating. Shadow Play functions perfectly.
