Issue with Overclock not working on core clock speed
Hello, I just completed my first OC on my GPU this evening. I was using a 5070ti and managed stability at +475mhz on core and +3000mhz on memory. After finishing the OC, I tried undervolting for the first time and became very new to this process. I followed a YouTube guide, discovered my top speed at 3300mhz / 1.035v, then lowered it to 1v and it worked. I then reduced it to .95v but immediately the PC froze after applying that setting. I had to keep pressing the power button to restart. After restarting, I applied my stable OC profile, though my core clock now tops out at around 2600mhz. Memory speed still climbs as expected. When I reset the OC profile back to defaults, my core speed drops to about 2100mhz. It seems like my GPU is now running at a much slower speed? I’m confused and unsure what to do next.
Have you attempted removing your GPU drivers using the DDU uninstaller at https://www.guru3d.com/download/display-...-download/ and subsequently installing the latest drivers for the card?
I tried reinstalling my driver and MSIafterburner but neither resolved the issue. I managed to fix it another way, though I don’t understand why. In MSIafterburner I set my OC to +700mhz and saw my core clock rise to 2800mhz; then I increased it again to +900mhz, which caused the PC to crash and required a hard restart. After booting up, everything worked as before, so I’ve decided against experimenting with undervolting now.
When this occurs, avoid simply reinstalling everything. First, remove Afterburner using Revo Uninstaller—delete all files, registry entries, and clear the registry. Restart in safe mode and uninstall drivers via DDU, then restart again and install graphics drivers. If that resolves the issue, a crash and reboot restored everything. Also, ensure Afterburner isn’t running before updating Nvidia drivers (manually or through the Nvidia App), close it, update the driver, and restart.
