I've built a new PC recently.
The setup includes:
- 7800x3d
- Thermaltake la240
- Asus rog strix b650e-f
- Kingston fury 32gb DDR5 6000mhz cl36
- WD 2tb m.2 nvme 4.0 SSD
- Asus rtx 4070
- Corsair rm850x
- Thermaltake tower 600
- Windows 11
- Asus vg27ag
Since powering it up, I've faced booting problems. The first start was smooth, but after enabling the expo profile on the RAM and restarting with the goal of installing Windows 11, I encountered a long beep followed by three short beeps. This indicated VGA issues, along with the yellow and white lights. Eventually, after removing the CMOS and resetting the BIOS, it started working again.
Now it's inconsistent—sometimes it plays one beep and three quick beeps, then just the white light, and it jumps straight into Windows without entering the BIOS. I'm trying to enable Secure Boot for a game, but nothing seems to work. The motherboard's white light stays on constantly. It's confusing, and I'm not sure if this is normal.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Include the age of the PSU along with its make and model. BIOS version for your motherboard at this time. Did you recycle any components from your older build, such as an OS drive?
I activated the expo profile on the RAM sticks and then restarted with the goal of installing Windows 11.
You install the OS with UEFI enabled. Only after completing the installation in offline mode do you return to BIOS and enable Secure Boot, Fast Boot, as well as AMD's E.X.P.O.
When I reset the machine, I heard a long beep followed by three short beeps, indicating VGA issues, along with the yellow and white lights.
Did you clear the CMOS, perform a system reboot, or reset the OS?
I noticed I made a mistake at first when I turned on expo before installing the OS. I've since re-enabled it.
Sorry, I meant to reboot. Only the GPU has been recycled. The motherboard is running the latest version from Asus. I flashed it before installing the operating system.
The system is using the newest download from Asus. I updated it before setting up the operating system.
Highlighting the BIOS version instead of the latest provides two benefits.
Turn off the device, erase the CMOS, reattach the processor, and install the cooler without fully tightening all four mounting points.
After that, it emits a 1 beep, then three short tones, followed by just white light, and restarts immediately, bypassing the BIOS setup screen and going straight to the Windows login screen.
Its bios version 3287. Would you consider flashing back to an earlier release?
Could re-seating the CPU make a difference? I thought the beeps and lights indicated a GPU problem. I don’t have any isopropyl alcohol on hand, so I’ll try cleaning it up tomorrow when I can get some from the store. I assume I’ll need to apply fresh paste then.
The GPU was from my previous machine and had no such issues before. I managed to reach the BIOS menus when needed and experienced no boot problems. Technically, I could reinstall it in my old system.
Update: I tested using an HDMI cable instead of the DP cable to my monitor. Although booting is still slow, I didn’t hear any beeps, white light, or access issues. It seems the problem might be with the monitor or DP cable. I’ve ordered a new DP cable so I’ll try that on Monday.
So, I received a new DP cable today but it hasn't resolved the error codes. I also tested HDMI on my monitor and TV, which worked fine. Since the new DP cable isn't functioning properly while HDMI does, it might suggest a problem with the DP port on the monitor. Unfortunately, I don't have another monitor to test and can't rule out a hardware issue there. Apart from a bad DP port, I'm not sure what could be causing this. Except for the quick boot error, everything seems to work perfectly.
If you're using the 7800x3d with DDR5-5200, you might encounter problems. Are you running two or four memory sticks? The 5200 is the suggested speed for this setup; anything higher offers a performance boost. I recommend setting the memory timings in the BIOS to the second option, even though it's still faster than 5200. If the system boots normally at 6000 but has issues afterward, it could be related to the memory timings or CPU compatibility. However, based on my experience, changing the speed from 3600 to 3000 on DDR4 without issues worked well for me when I had a similar setup with four sticks.
It appeared to begin after enabling expo, though I also had it before resetting the CMOS—definitely true. I’ll try it out. I saw some mentions about Ryzen having preferred timings, but most suggested 6000m/t ram, so I guess that’s what they prefer. I doubt there’ll be a big slowdown going down to 5600.
5200 is the suggested spec. X3D chips can be a bit inconsistent with higher memory speeds because of the 3D cache. It’s not worth upgrading to 6000 or 5600 memory for X3D chips—it behaves differently compared to non-X3D chips. If things don’t work out, just switch to the 5600 settings and change it back to 5200 instead of 5600. You won’t experience significant losses in games.
