I used my 970 EVO for years as a boot drive. Recently I crashed and was able to boot into Windows only, showing just the BIOS and some troubleshooting screens. After trying fixes, I switched to another HDD and it worked fine. My 970 EVO has over 600GB with about 300GB free, but many of my files seem missing or inaccessible because I had to re-download apps like Chrome, GoXLR, Discord, etc. I’m not sure how to test it properly—any advice would be great.

Use CristalDiskInfo to assess the drive's condition. Make sure to back up all your information from that drive. Edited September 27, 2024 by leclod

It's recommended to utilize the vendor's own tools for this task. https://semiconductor.samsung.com/consum.../magician/
