Hey there, I’ve got a question about my mainboard. Only two of the four memory slots seem to be working. At first, I thought it was a dead memory channel, but there’s still an issue. When I switch the dimmer settings to other ports, it works and both other channels stop functioning. Anyone have any suggestions? Also, just a note, I’m German, so I hope this is clear. CPU: Intel Xeon e31245 Mainboard: Asus P8Z77-M

I'm using the same RAM modules, and yes, they all match.

I'm working with two older, unbranded sticks. They look the same. I've also tested them with sticks from Samsung, Hynix, and HP-labeled products.

You're confirming the BIOS is being reset each time? Changing it often resolves issues like this. If you recently took out your CPU, check for damaged pins in the socket.

The board features four positions, yet you're employing just two connectors. You're likely using them for alternate connections or testing purposes. Also, the Asus site states that the Xeon processor isn't officially approved.

All the pins have been verified. However, I haven’t restarted it each time. I’ll give it another try. Appreciate the help!

I used it with version 4. However, it consistently had one channel (two slots) dead. Using two dimmers resolved the issue—each channel worked. Though not officially supported, this might explain why only a single channel functions at a time.

Xeons have specific RAM requirements, needing ECC support which isn't available in your motherboard, potentially causing problems. Have you updated the BIOS on the card? Are the settings left at default and not overclocked?

If it helps with ECC there wouldn't be any issues xD. The newest firmware is updated and overclocking isn't being used. Thanks a lot!

You might consider premium matching RAM, though I think you’ll still face similar limitations. Xeons tend to be quite strict with non-ECC memory, and having just two slots could be your only option.
