It seems this setup is quite outdated. I might be able to find a functional .dmg for Snow Leopard. I recently brought back an old 24-inch iMac from early 2008 just to test it out, and the previous owner had installers for Leopard but not Snow Leopard. I struggled to update it to newer versions and eventually found a working copy somewhere. I’m hoping I can track down the original installation media I used (it was getting frustrating and my energy was low). My plan is to create the installer USB with Transmac. If the installation freezes during setup, it might mean another problem—possibly a damaged hard drive cable or HDD.

You can find older versions of macOS from Apple. It’s possible to install High Sierra, El Cap, or Yosemite. If those aren’t available, there’s a link to Mac OS Lion, which was the default version shipped.
