Issue with low frames per second and visual stutters on the latest setup.
Hi guys
A friend recently bought a fully prebuilt PC about a month ago. He’s experiencing lower frame rates than me, even though his hardware seems better. In some games, he sees dips as low as 15 to 20 frames per second. His system is mid to high range, so it shouldn’t be that bad.
In Baldur’s Gate 3, he consistently gets 20 to 25 frames lower than me, despite having a stronger CPU.
Here are the specs:
CPU: 7800x3d
Memory: Asus TUF B850
RAM: 32GB 6000MHz/CL36
GPU: Asus Prime OC RX 9070XT
Power Supply: Corsair RM750 (750W)
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i
Monitor: Alienware 32” 4K 240Hz via DP cable
Operating System: Windows 11 with latest drivers
I also have:
CPU: 5800x3d
Memory: MSI Carbon WiFi X850
RAM: 32GB 3200MHz/CL32
GPU: Steel Legend RX 9070XT
PSU: NZXT C1200 (1200W)
CPU Cooler: Lian Li Galahad 3 LCD
We’ve tried mirroring my settings in Adrenalin and in the same games, but he still sees 20-25 FPS drops and falls from 120 to 130 FPS down to 15-20.
What could be wrong?
Thanks
Psu: The Corsair 750watt unit's details are unclear; you need to remove the side panels from the case to find the sticker on the PSU. Regarding the platform, clarify the BIOS version of your motherboard. For the motherboard, mention its make and model. When checking the BIOS, ensure the iGPU is not disabled. Also, confirm whether the monitor is connected to the discrete GPU or the iGPU. Ask about the CPU cooler used in the prebuilt.
Updated a few specifications for the BIOS so my friend can check upon returning, since the issue lies with his PC (AM5) not mine (old AM4).
Updated some specifications

Psu: Corsair RM750, 750watt
Would have been better to choose an 850W model from the RMx lineup, it would have provided more headroom.
Is that the RMx or RMe model?
Would’ve been a better choice to get an 850W unit from the RMx series, would’ve allowed for more headroom.
Is this your friend’s setup?
The link you shared is: https://www.corsair.com/us/en/p/cpu...Dc...4R38apgxn4
It seems to be about the cooler they’re using.
Actually, it’s not just the BIOS version that matters—your friend needs to get back to us with more details to help fix the issue.
Another tip: after disabling the iGPU in BIOS, try using DDU to remove all GPU drivers (Intel, Nvidia, AMD) in Safe Mode, reboot, then install the latest driver from AMD’s support site via an elevated command.
Have you checked temperatures during idle and load conditions?
It’s the RM750x he mentions. That’s the Aio.
We checked the temperatures last night using Adrenaline. He was similar to my readings, except he had 64°C in games while I was at 58-60°C. (We both use the same Hyte Y40 case). His Adrenalin showed 2700rpm on the GPU fans, which is quite high compared to mine at 1850rpm. I’m sure it’s not the exact same GPU, but a driver error could be possible.
He installed the newest Adrenalin driver and cleared the old one with AMD Cleanup.
My thoughts on the 750watt power rating are also here, but Asus suggests 750watts for their Prime card while AsRock recommends 850watts.
The dual bios on his GPU also affect performance, which I want to note.
