Hello, I see you're facing an issue with your older server. The system starts up but displays only 8GB of RAM out of the 16GB available. The mainboard detects all four RAM modules, though two are marked as disabled. You mentioned seeing this behavior when using dual-channel mode with just two sticks installed. It seems there might be a problem with settings or configuration. Your server specs include two Intel E5320 RAM sticks at 4GB each (total 8GB), but the mainboard only recognizes four. Have you checked the BIOS version or any recent updates? Let me know if you need further guidance. Edited July 31, 2022 by Technik_Panda

Many seasoned users skip posts without system details since they’re essential over 90% of the time. I recommend checking the pinned messages at the start of the troubleshooting part.

I saw it, but the details matter since it starts up. It seems the system doesn’t identify the memory correctly. I can list all the specs, but I’m not sure if that fixes anything.

I understand the situation. The individuals most likely to provide an answer are often the same ones who quickly glance at the post and assume it lacks details. It’s also worth noting this isn’t a Windows-specific concern, so sharing it outside the “not windows” category might not have helped. Edited July 31, 2022 by Bombastinator

I modify the post with the specifications, but it's located correctly since it relates to CPU, motherboard, and memory.

However, it isn't Windows. Irrelevant. Should the mod believe it belongs in this place or another, they'll position it correctly.

I'll begin testing them in pairs. Both CPUs appear to be recognized and functioning properly. It seems there could be an issue with the E5230 being limited to 8GB RAM.

I couldn't locate the maximum RAM supported by the CPU, but I saw online that the motherboard can handle up to 16 GB. If you install them in the other two slots without dual-channel support, it might not work and cause a boot failure. Perhaps the E5320 model doesn't accommodate much RAM?

The e5230 supports only 8GB of RAM, and there’s no information about higher capacities. It makes sense that it won’t boot because the modules aren’t in the correct slots. Upgrading the CPU isn’t worth it since these servers are essentially discarded for little value.

I checked available options for CPUs on this platform priced between $3 to $5 each. It seems they may support more RAM, but a BIOS update might be required for compatibility. You can look into forums or manufacturer websites for details. Some users mention discarded servers, but upgrading CPUs shouldn’t be too costly if done properly.
