You're facing a challenge with installing 98SE on a system that has DDR3 RAM, which is unusual since DDR3 was primarily used in laptops. The issue seems to be related to the memory configuration. There are some solutions you might explore:

- Check if there are any firmware updates or patches available for your specific motherboard model.
- Consider using a different motherboard that supports DDR2 RAM, as it's more compatible with older systems.
- If you're open to alternatives, you could try installing a system with DDR2 RAM, which is more common in older hardware.

If these options don't work, you might need to reconsider your setup and look for a more suitable configuration.

Running Windows98 on newer hardware presents challenges. Setting MaxPhysPage to 20000 frees up about 512MB of memory. I'm unsure if 40000 equals 1GB or 256MB—sorry for the confusion. Edit: it seems 40000 is likely 1GB.

You can transfer the file to a different computer, remove the drive, and then edit it there.

I assume you modify the files used for installation.

I had to modify the installation prior to creating the bootable image. This was the process I followed. Edited November 13, 2021 by thrasher_565

Well yeah, that's one way. But if you can get it running on a system or w/e system it came from working, you can patch it to 4GB. Source: http://lonecrusader.x10host.com/rloew/rloew.html Read the Manual. PATCHMEM.ZIP

We followed the traditional method before. Sorry about the earlier mix-up. Check out the updated guide here: https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?t=41065

i don't understand either. i'm planning to edit the file then recreate the iso, maybe. i think my ebay ddr2 p43 is compatible with the 771 x5470 should work. gigabyte ga-p43-es3g also seems to support an radeon x850 xt pcie. i'm trying the gtx 8800 gt with a modified driver, and the am2 agp mb is working fine. my 6800 ultra is running smoothly now.
