Issue with homemade rig overclocking attempt
Issue with homemade rig overclocking attempt
My rig is 3 or 4 years old. I recently replaced the boot SSD.
Problem: At first, I thought it sounded like a fan misfire during startup. I turn off the power and try again. This happens about 4 or 5 times, after which it stops making noise and displays an overclocking failed message. Then I turn it off again and it works.
Sometimes when trying to start it, Windows shows a fix PC message.
Initially, I believed it was a fan issue, but now I suspect the boot SSD is the problem. It sounds like a mechanical disk.
It’s an i7 processor with an NVIDIA 970 or 980 chipset, has two SSDs and two HHD drives, all of which are active.
Do you have any suggestions on what part to replace or a simple fix I can try? I built it myself using parts recommended by others.
Update your message to mention the full hardware specifications and operating system.
Check if the power supply unit has been replaced; a failing PSU is likely the main issue.
Have you inspected the case for loose connections, reattached cables, reseated RAM and PCIe cards, and cleaned the system thoroughly?
If the problems persist, consider trying a different power supply unit.
I believe the audio quality might be off. The PSU could sound more metallic. I've been inspecting the case to ensure everything is correct and checking the cables, but I can always do further checks. I'll revisit this and provide more accurate details about the components I'm using.
This may not be connected, but it could be useful. I experienced a loud and intense screamish noise when reaching the end of civ6. The computer became extremely unresponsive, requiring me to shut it down again. This issue has persisted since I first assembled the system. They suggested it might be related to the power unit PSU, the i7 processor, or possibly the motherboard. Since then, I've replaced the power unit, but it didn't resolve the problem significantly. Recently, I switched the SSD for another reason.
