Issue with heat shield on Gigabyte X670E chipset
Hi everyone, I'm assembling my second PC and need some advice. The good search results haven't been enough to make a decision. In short, I have a Gigabyte X670E Master MBO and when trying to fit my GPU it doesn’t sit right and doesn’t click into the PCIe slot. I figured the heatshield on the chipset is preventing the right side of the PCIe slot from fully engaging. My question is, should I use the MBO without the chipset heatshield? I’m not sure if it’s possible and didn’t want to risk it. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have some pictures of the heat shield for reference—it’s too high to let the GPU sit perfectly. The shield is located in the bottom right, with ‘Aorus’ visible on it. ASUS ROG RTX 4090 GIGABYTE X670E MASTER
In the image the chipset heatsink is positioned and the M.2 drive heatsink has been removed. Did that match your intention? Some of your M.2 drives come with integrated heatsinks, which could block the motherboard heatsink from fitting properly. If you plan to place drives under a motherboard heatsink, choose models without built-in heatsinks. Still, a properly installed motherboard heatsink shouldn't affect the GPU placement.
Hi, thank you for your message. I understand you had to remove the left side panel heat sinks because the SSD required a different setup. I believe this is more about appearance than performance—removing them shouldn’t affect how the board works. Right now, the main problem is with my GPU. It doesn’t fully engage when I try to install it, and the right side clip doesn’t click properly. This causes BIOS recognition issues. I think the real cause is the chipset heat sink on the bottom right of the motherboard being higher than the PCIe slot, which prevents the GPU from fitting snugly. I noticed wear marks on the heat shield where it got stuck. Even though I think it should work, the GPU looks a bit too bulky and might have been overlooked during installation. If you take off the chipset heat sink, is the board still safe to use? Does it need that component for proper operation?
