Is the system using the standard BIOS? I wouldn't install a different BIOS since the default one should operate properly. Occasionally, Windows or driver updates can affect older devices. You might want to remove the most recent updates and check if that resolves the issue.

I've never encountered a stock BIOS getting corrupted. The likelihood is extremely small.

I would try using passmark or 3DMark, since you can compare it to other GTX 960 models there.
