Issue with GTA V performance inconsistency.
Issue with GTA V performance inconsistency.
Hey there, I noticed some strange lag when playing with friends. It gets worse when my buddy joins my car and slows things down, but it’s worse when I’m playing solo. I’ve updated my drivers and everything seems to be running normally, but I’m still experiencing issues. I’m using an Asus Gtx 660 with 8GB RAM and an I5-4670k at stock settings. All the settings are set to normal, and tessellation is off. The Task Manager shows I’m using 80% RAM and 40-65% CPU, but the Ethernet connection is reporting speeds of 400-600 kbps going and only 80-100 kbps coming. My fiber connection is showing 74.81 Mbps down and 9.8 Mbps up, which shouldn’t be the case. I’m not sure what to do next and haven’t found a solution elsewhere. Thanks for your help!
I'm facing the same problem too. My GTX 760 OC with 4GB RAM, an i7-4770K processor, and 8GB of 1600MB RAM causes frequent lag spikes. I've installed it on a 7200rpm WD Blue SSD, but regardless of the settings—whether low or high—I still experience the same performance drops. My CPU stays around 30-60% utilization, my GPU at 60-80%, and RAM usage hits 90%. This seems to be a common issue. My friend has the same GPU and CPU but uses an SSD, which runs faster. He also has the game on his SATA SSD, whereas I'm using an SSD. I'm 15, but this is what I'm thinking. I'm planning to buy more RAM today and hope it resolves the problem.
I wouldn't rely on the in-game menu. It's just a rough guess. Install MSI Afterburner and keep track of your VRAM/usage there. Try to identify when the lag starts and see what MSI Afterburner shows at that moment. This will provide clearer understanding.
I wasn't experiencing thermal throttling despite the high CPU temperatures. It might not be related to the stock cooler you're using.
88c remains acceptable. Limiting should happen beyond that point.
After some time in use, the temperature reached 96°C. I realize I should replace the CPU cooler, but I'm worried it might be making me slower now.
That’s significantly higher than the safe operating range. It’s likely you’re falling below your performance limits even at those temperatures and it could lead to delays.
I just bought eight more GB of RAM and wow, the game runs much smoother. I used to find it super frustrating, but now I can play all day! The task manager shows it’s using 8 GB of RAM, so the fix is clear—more RAM needed! I now have a 16 GB quad channel setup.
