I'm working on assembling my first PC. I placed the GPU and found a fan cable stuck between the card and motherboard. Trying to undo it didn't work, so I forced it out and removed the GPU, but it broke. I need to install a 3080 and have read that as long as I secure it properly and avoid moving it much, it should be okay. However, the card is large, so I'm a bit worried despite using a brace to support it.

I'm more worried about possible harm to the PCIe connections in this situation. It seems the plastic clip may have come loose before any damage occurred to those pins.

If you're concerned about using your computer in a horizontal position, the card will stay securely in place because its weight points straight into the slot. A basic screw should suffice as long as you keep the PC stable—avoid moving it, kicking it, or placing a heavy subwoofer near the PC that could cause vibrations and shift the card.
