Issue with Genshin Impact triggering BSOD following hardware upgrade
Issue with Genshin Impact triggering BSOD following hardware upgrade
Hello everyone,
The main point here is the title, which seems a bit off, but it’s the only thing I can consistently mention about this matter. About three weeks back, I upgraded my motherboard, processor, and memory. Initially, there were no issues, but two weeks later, after the Genshin Impact update 4.5, my computer started crashing with BSODs whenever I tried to launch the game.
At first, I managed to work around it by adding the Genshin Impact folder to the exclusion list for Windows Defender, thinking the problem might be caused by antivirus interference. This only partially resolved the issue and gave me a 20% chance of logging in successfully for about a week. Other times, the system would still crash.
I performed many tests and found no problems—memory and disk checks passed, drivers and Windows were up to date, and even after updating my BIOS, the problem persisted. Running the driver verifier helped once more, but only on the first attempt. If the game closed unexpectedly, restarting would cause the computer to crash again. The driver verifier didn’t provide any clear answers.
Feeling increasingly confused and frustrated, I decided to reset Windows in the hope of a fresh start. Unfortunately, this didn’t help—I now have a 0% success rate when logging in. I’ve examined the .dmp files, but I’m not confident enough to interpret them properly.
Based on what the .dmp files indicate, the anticheat software appears to be the root cause. I’ve seen similar crashes in other games with anticheat (like Helldivers 2), but nothing as severe as the BSOD errors seen here. It seems a new driver might have been installed during the hardware upgrade, possibly interfering with anticheat. The memory integrity setting under core isolation was already disabled, which had caused similar problems before.
I’m at a loss and hoping someone with more expertise can help analyze this issue further. Here are my system details:
- Motherboard: Asus Z790 pro wifi
- Processor: Intel i9-14900k
- Memory: 2x32 Corsair Vengance DDR5 6400 MHz
- Operating System: Windows 11
- Graphics Card: RTX 3080
- Power Supply: 850W Gold
- Storage: 1TB m.2 (OS) + 4TB m.2 (games/programs)
I’ve attached a link to the .dmp files:

There are three distinct .dmp files from the same event—just launching the game. The KMODE exception is most frequent, suggesting an antivirus problem, but disabling it leads to a PAGE_FAULT error. The third error is a random hardware fault that could be a clue.
Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
Power Supply: 850W Gold
850W is the stated wattage of the device, whereas Gold indicates an 80+ efficiency rating. Could you tell me the model and brand of your PSU, as well as its age?
Last week, I replaced my motherboard, processor, and memory. What upgrades did you make? Did you reinstall your operating system following a platform migration (after rebuilding the installer from scratch)? If not, that’s where you should begin.
The PSU model is EVGA 850 GT Supernova. It is two years old. I upgraded from an ASUS Prime Z390-A motherboard, an i7 9700k processor, and 2x16 GB Ballistix DDR4 3200 MHz memory. After the upgrade, I didn't change the operating system, and it functioned properly except for this problem. During my troubleshooting, I reset the OS but didn't reinstall from scratch because I wanted to retain my data. You're asking if a clean installation of the OS is recommended? Yes, I plan to start with that.
The initial clean installation seemed adequate, but there were additional issues beneath the surface. Because the first install failed, I had to perform a second clean setup. Once the game started on my second SSD, it loaded properly. After roughly 15 minutes of re-installing resources, the game crashed again with another BSOD. I restarted the PC and logged in successfully, but the session lasted only about five minutes before another BSOD error occurred. This prompted a second fresh installation. Throughout the process, I carefully recorded each installed item and compared it to the previous attempt. The key change was not installing ASUS Armoury Crate. For the second install, I visited the ASUS website and downloaded only the LAN and WIFI drivers, as those were essential for basic operation. I also installed the latest GPU driver manually. After that, I installed other applications gradually, restarting the computer periodically to maintain stability.
My system and games are now functioning well. I’m certain the ASUS Armoury Crate was involved in this situation, but I still don’t understand why. I’ve attached the two .dmp files generated during my first clean install for anyone interested in investigating further. They’re available via the Dropbox link in my original post.
Thanks Lutfij for the advice. I’ll mark this issue resolved.
