Issue with FPS on RX590
Hello, I recently purchased a new PC about two days ago. I'm running games with high FPS settings between 100 and 110, but I'm experiencing around 30 to 40 FPS. The GPU performance isn't consistent, fluctuating between nearly 99% and 30%. When I switch to the scope view, it drops to about 20 FPS. I'm facing this issue in PUBG, and I haven't tested it on other games yet. Hardware details: MSI RX 590 ARMOR, R5 1600, B450M motherboard, GIGABYTE P650B power supply, 650W.
Update the BIOS, install drivers, and refresh firmware. Test the video drivers and reinstall if needed.
I recommend uninstalling or cleaning the older driver before installing the new one. Another potential reason for reduced performance is insufficient RAM and power supply. We understand Ryzen performs best around 2400MHz or above. Could you check the RAM you have? Also, single-channel memory might limit your speed. It’s typical for Ryzen to run most efficiently with dual-channel RAM at 2400MHz or higher. Power problems can also affect the RX590, since it consumes power similar to a 1080Ti and isn’t very efficient. Even though your PSU lists 650 watts, that’s the total wattage across both rails. You should look at the 12-volt rail wattage—perhaps only 450W, while the RX590 draws 250–300W. Peak loads could raise that further.
I have a single-channel 8GB DDR4 3000MHz system. When trying to run Rust, the GPU usage remained similar to PUBG. I posted a video on YouTube discussing this issue, and you can find the link there.
It could be the single-channel memory causing the issue. Since Ryzen systems don't handle single-channel memories effectively, this might be the root cause.
I spoke with a colleague from a Turkish forum; we face the same issue. He has 16GB of RAM but uses dual channels, which I don’t think is enough.
He remains a distinct concern. It’s usually best to enable dual channel with your Ryzen setup.
