I recently purchased an RX 580 2048SP with 8GB RAM. I didn’t verify if my PSU supports the correct connector, so unfortunately I only have two free Molex and one SATA port. The GPU hasn’t arrived yet, but I’m trying to figure out what to do. My system specs are: Intel i3-10100F processor, 700W PSU from Orion, 16GB RAM, 250GB storage, M.2 team group, and a 7200RPM HDD. My generic PSU claims it’s rated for 700W. From what I learned, the new GPU uses up to 150W max, so my PSU seems capable but lacks the right connector. I’m considering converting two Molex to a six-pin adapter, though I worry about quality. Another idea is using an 800W generic PSU with an eight-pin CPU power connector and a six-pin one for storage. What are your thoughts?
Yeah replace that that sounds like one that will kill your system
I had similar ideas too, but I noticed a Corsair CV650, Cooler Master Elite (v3 or v4? not sure), and a MSI MAG 650. What do you think? Also, I haven’t looked at the tier list yet, but those PSUs are already in stock at a store close to me.
I understand, at first my setup was meant to be ready-made, but I asked for adjustments such as Mobo and RAM upgrades. My error was swapping the PSU too. As a result, I’m considering 80+ PSUs and would appreciate advice from others in this situation.
According to what I understand, the only similar brands that offer modular cables and PSUs are Cosair. However, mixing and matching cables for PSUs isn't usually recommended.
