Issue with downloading
Issue with downloading
Hello, I moved countries earlier this year for my studies. When I arrived, a friend left me an old computer because mine was left behind at home. The machine’s specs are i5-3740 with 12GB DDR3 GTX 750ti. My main concern is this: whenever I download files as single files (like from a browser), everything works smoothly and I get around 20MB. But when I try to download games from Steam or Epic, the speed drops drastically and the download halts unexpectedly at random times, along with the disk performance. What’s going on? Is it because my internet is too fast for the processor or storage to handle the decompression? Or is there a problem with the CPU or hard drive itself? I’ve noticed this issue only on Windows, not on Linux, even with low RAM settings. Please help. Thank you.
Steam might reserve game files ahead of time before the download starts. If your storage device isn’t working properly, the process could fail or slow down significantly.
You often encounter periods without download or SSD activity across different platforms. This isn’t necessarily a problem unless you notice unusual differences in performance between operating systems. It’s worth checking if your Linux games run more smoothly and if the timing of these issues is consistent.
230 downloads, 30 uploads, consistent ping across both OS versions
The main problem is that there aren’t any “times” to halt the download; it keeps running continuously on Windows while on Linux it’s a steady, unstoppable download that never stops.
Yes, you can still download files on Windows. There are specific moments when the download process activates. Reinstalling Steam is recommended, but ensure you clear all local Steam folders and settings beforehand.
