Issue with Dell XPS 9560 I7-7700 running at 800 MHz
I have a Dell XPS 9560 that won't boot with the battery connected. After removing the battery I get this warning in the bios: The AC power adapter wattage and type cannot be determined. The battery may not charge. The system will adjust the performance to match the power available. I tried a different adapter without luck. After booting, the cpu is stuck at 800 Mhz. This is Throttlestop after booting: After I disable BD PROCHOT, my cpu is around 1100 Mhz: I restored the bios to default. Before I recently did a new windows install, I could set the multiplier in Throttlestop, now it doesn't do anything anymore. My cpu would go up to the desired multiplier but under a lot of stess would go back to 800 Mhz.
It seems you're referring to a safety measure. A reliable official charger and battery could be important for that.
It is an official charger. I tried 2 different ones without luck. I also ordered a replacement battery that didn't work.
CPU throttling appears due to a BD PROCHOT signal issue. Turning off BD PROCHOT lets your processor disregard these signals. A faulty sensor on your motherboard may be sending false throttling commands even when the CPU isn’t overheating. Since you have a 7th Gen processor, open the TPL window and activate Speed Shift. This enables your CPU to operate at its full speed. On the main display, SST should read green if Speed Shift is active. Review the Speed Shift EPP settings and set the EPP value to 0 for optimal performance or adjust it to 80 if you prefer a lower clock when lightly loaded.
