Updated by turning off GOG in-game overlay. I own the game on GOG but faced update problems, so I removed and readded it. After restarting, the cursor lagged badly (fixed by enabling hardware cursor) and everything slowed down, even in menus. This might be due to old graphics drivers, though I’m using the latest. I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling again without success. Anyone else experienced this issue? Any known solutions?

System details: 4790k SLI 980’s (SLI not the problem), running 16GB Hyper X Fury Gaming on a WD Black 1TB SSD.

Have you verified the load on your cards during gameplay? If the load isn’t normal, try disabling SLI and observe the results while running the game. If the problem continues, consider updating or reinstalling your GPU drivers. Updating to the newest driver or the first one that supports the Witcher 3 SLI profile would help. I understand you mentioned it’s not SLI itself causing the issue, but this would eliminate hardware or non-game software as a factor. Given Windows’ behavior, it’s possible a driver corruption occurred after uninstalling the game—something similar has happened to me on SLI-based systems before.

Interestingly, some time after the problem began, I was playing the game and trying to adjust settings to make it work. The screen suddenly went dark. After a tough restart, the only way to see anything was by disabling the SLI bridge, and then when I booted into Windows the resolution was extremely low. I realized I had no graphics drivers installed. I plan to remove and reinstall them, just in case. Thanks!

Removed and readded Nvidia drivers, everything worked perfectly! Spent some time exploring a fresh save, then restored my previous backup and suddenly things slowed down again. Wiped out all copied files, reinstalled the drivers, but lag persisted. Appreciate the effort, though!

Your previous save has been tired of your behavior.

A new hotfix driver from Nvidia was released yesterday. It targets some stuttering issues in games, though it's unclear whether this applies to Pascal or Maxwell.
