Issue with DDR5 6400MHz performance on 13700K motherboard
I'm switching from a poor memory package of DDR5 5200mhz to a fresh 64GB DDR5 6400mhz kit. It's causing memory issues in memtest86 and frequent OS freezes that haven't fixed. I've tried several fixes: lowering the clock speed to 6000mhz, adjusting voltage from 1.40v to 1.45v, resetting the BIOS to defaults, re-seating the RAM, and manually setting speeds without XMP. My current setup includes an Intel 13700K processor, a Gigabyte Z690 AORUS ULTRA motherboard with the latest BIOS (F29), and 64GB of G.SKILL Trident Z5 RGB RAM (2x32GB). Any suggestions for further improvements?
It seems like there could be an issue here. Most chips should handle that speed and capacity, but some don’t—especially my 13900K. I wouldn’t really suggest going that fast unless I’m sure it’ll work. If it doesn’t, I’d probably test each DIMM one by one to rule out a faulty memory stick. That usually doesn’t help much. DDR5 usually performs best at around 1.35-1.4V, and higher voltages tend to cause more problems. It’s a bit surprising I’d try 1.35V, but it might be worth a shot. If that doesn’t resolve the problem, you might need to experiment with different voltages like VDDQ TX, VDD2, and system agent—each has its sweet spot. Adjusting them between higher and lower values could help you find a stable setting.
Thanks for the update! It seems like the setup might be too demanding for your processor. I lowered the voltage to 1.35 and adjusted the speed, but stability didn’t improve. Changing VDDQ and other CPU voltages didn’t help either. Could it be that the components aren’t suitable for your setup?
Consider testing each stick separately to identify stable memory slot combinations at 6000. If issues persist, it likely indicates a faulty memory stick or kit, and returning it for replacement is recommended.
