Issue with CPU warming following PSU installation
CPU temperatures rose after the new PSU was installed.
I put in a Corsair HX1500i on my PC but it wouldn't turn on. I detected smoke and turned it off. After opening it, I found the SATA cable for my DVD drive had melted. I unplugged it and everything worked again. I was able to play games and download files normally.
Running a hardware monitor showed my CPU at 100°C. That's far above its normal limit of 62°C. Could this mean the PSU is supplying too much power? The manual says the core voltage should be around 0.940 volts. My processor is an i9-10900k, which should be between 0.8 and 1.5 volts.
What type of CPU cooler is being used and whether it's AIO, and if a SATA plug got damaged. It's not working because the power cables aren't compatible with the new power supply since pin configurations differ. Modular supplies require replacing all components. Only data cables are safe to reuse. If your cooler requires power (AIO pump) and hasn't changed its cables, it could be damaged too. What was your previous power supply?
The SATA cable connected from MoBo to the DVD drive. The AIO model is Corsair H110i. According to the ICUE app, it's running. After startup, temperatures increase to 100°C within a few minutes. The pump temperature reads between 34°C and 39°C, while the core stays at 100°C.
Problem resolved. I forgot a single SATA power cable while changing my PSU. The only other thing affected was my DVD drive's connection, which was still working at 234rpm. After replacing the power cable, it now spins at 2300rpm. Temperatures are currently in the high 30s.
