Issue with compatibility between B450 Tomahawk Max and 2700X model
The pcpartpicker indicates incompatibility between the Ryzen 7 2700X and the B450 Tomahawk Max motherboard. I verified MSI’s supported CPU list, which doesn’t include it. What bothers me is that MSI lists support for 2700 and 2700X Pro, plus the 2700 model. I’m puzzled since PCPartPicker pulls data from MSI’s site and they might have made an error. If that’s the case, I don’t get why builds for these parts aren’t available. What else could this mean? I was excited about buying this setup too. Where can I locate the correct Ubuntu 16.04 drivers for this board?
The 2700X is now only 189 USD. I was thinking about buying a mobo with the X570 chipset, but I won’t be using many of its features. I’ll keep it in mind. Thanks.
You're absolutely correct, it seems like there might be an error.
I mean, the tomahawk tends to be more affordable compared to the max model. Because the tomahawk supports the 2700x, it would likely be preferred over the max. Those who buy the max probably select it mainly for 3rd generation support, I’m not sure. Would you like me to send them an email?
I've emailed them with two questions. They answered the first but avoided the second. I've already sent a message with just one question, but it's Sunday, so I should get a reply tomorrow—assuming they don't evade again.
