Hello! I’m dealing with a strange issue that’s been ongoing for about a year.
My games, especially CS titles, become very choppy unless I enable gsync, vsync, or low latency mode. Setting a frame cap doesn’t solve the problem, even though low latency helps in some cases. I’ve tried multiple setups: two different monitors, four GPUs (one AMD with three NVIDIA), two motherboards, two mice, and various Windows versions. On an AMD GPU, manually capping the frame rate works most of the time, but since it’s quite old, comparing it to a 3080 wasn’t possible.
It just started on a random day, and I can’t see it anymore. I’m using a 180Hz monitor with a 5600x and a 3080. I’m thinking about getting a 7800x3d and a Zowie Dyac, but because the games are unplayable without gsync + vsync, I wouldn’t be able to use the Dyac.
It really doesn’t matter how many frames per second I have—I can still experience choppy performance at 60Hz. For example, in League of Legends at 500 FPS, the camera movement remains laggy. I’m struggling to identify the cause and haven’t found many people with the same problem.

CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
Include the age of the PSU along with its make and model.
Bios version for your motherboard at this time.
Moved the thread from the Displays section to the Systems section.

Well, there's your problem.
Your monitor can only be smooth in the range it supports, you can look it up in the manual but it is usually between around 40FPS and up to the Hz it supports.
Tl;dr
If you go above 180FPS ( ~178) it will not be as smooth as below 180.
Get a higher refresh monitor if you want to have it be smooth at a higher FPS.

When playing LOL, keep the frame rate at or below 240; anything higher causes lag. The game engine is responsible for this.
No need to invest in a Zowie monitor.

Thank you for your reply. I see that manually adjusting FPS doesn't help. I need to rely on gsync and vsync or else it's around 60Hz. When I say it's choppy, I mean it feels like 60-100Hz, not laggy. Apologies if my question was unclear.
