Hello everyone,
I understand this issue might be a bit outdated, but I’m really puzzled and need some guidance.
Here are my details:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 3200G with standard cooler
- Motherboard: Asrock B450 Steel Legend, BIOS version P4.10
- RAM: 2x Corsair Vengeance 32GB CMK32GX4M2D3600C18
- PSU: Corsair VS550
- GPU: None
Over the past few days, sometimes when I press the power button, the system won’t boot and only displays a blank screen. The CPU fan, case fan, and PSU fan are running, but the motherboard LEDs stay on. I’ve tried removing anything, but nothing appears on the screen and no POST occurs. I’ve installed one memory stick in each RAM slot, but still nothing happens. After replacing all RAM, there were no beeps, then I unplugged the power cord, 8-pin 12V power, and the ATX cable, left it for a day. After reconnecting, I plugged everything back in—except RAM—and heard three long beeps indicating the RAM wasn’t installed or wasn’t seated properly. When I put the RAM back in, the PC booted normally into BIOS, but I’m unsure how long that lasted. Sometimes the monitor shows a blank screen again, like if I removed the HDMI cable. I tried connecting my current monitor to a laptop, which works fine.
I’m worried about a possible CPU or motherboard failure, but I just want to be sure before making any big purchases. I don’t have spare parts, and I’m really struggling here.

What's the age of your PSU in this setup?
Motherboard: Asrock B450 Steel Legend. BIOS version P4.10

If yes, you might have pending BIOS updates. Follow the guidance on the BIOS page and upgrade gradually.
I'm considering whether the problem lies with the CPU or the motherboard, but I'm not sure yet. I don't want to spend money on a new board and CPU at once 😭
Troubleshooting isn't about blaming anyone—it's about testing parts one by one using spares or a spare system. Use a checklist to determine which component is faulty in your build.
Just a note, the VS unit shouldn't be treated as a PSU. It's a low-quality part, no matter how much power it claims.
I'm leaning towards CPU failure or motherboard failure.
If you suspect the CPU, try installing it on a known working board with the correct BIOS version and see if the issue remains. If it works, you've identified a faulty CPU.
Have you tried clearing the CMOS? Best practice is to disconnect from the wall, power off, remove the CMOS battery, hold the power button for 30 seconds to discharge any remaining charge, then reinsert the battery after 30 minutes.

Could you suggest a more affordable option with a power rating under 700 watts? Please let me know.
Yes, I've already tried it. I removed all the power connectors and the CMOS battery, waited an hour, then plugged in again but this time I took out the RAM so only the board and CPU remained. Still nothing—no beeps either. The CPU fan and motherboard LED lit up, but the monitor showed "no signal."
I've checked my CPU for any damage or bent pins, but everything seems fine.
Now I'm just re-installing the CPU onto the board without RAM and pressing the power button. The result is still unchanged.
The CMOS battery is brand new and has been less than two months old. I purchased a replacement because before the system started behaving oddly, every time I entered the correct date and time in BIOS and restarted, it would reset back to the manufacturer's settings. I assumed the CMOS battery might be faulty.
