Issue with booting after GPU installation – seek guidance.
Hi, I purchased a new GPU for your son's PC. The MSI GTX 1660 Super Ventus comes with fresh Windows, the latest drivers, and a brand new 600W bronze PSU. After the upgrade, it occasionally boots into Windows or displays a black screen. I've tried various HDMI and power cables, checked different ports and connectors, and even used multiple GPU sockets. I restored it to the previous GPU, which now works perfectly. I went through several GPU stress tests—everything seems fine. The PSU functions properly with the old card too. I'm really confused. It either boots into Windows or just loops on a black screen. Could this be due to incompatibility with the older system? My setup is similar: Xeon 1270v2, 16GB DDR, MSI G43 motherboard. Please help me. I'd appreciate it if anyone can record the issue for reference. Regards.
What graphics card was previously installed? Edit: I searched online and found a recommendation to use UEFI BIOS instead of Legacy BIOS for the graphics card. Updated on October 29, 2022 by TylerD321
You could temporarily install the old graphics card inside the PC to adjust the BIOS configuration.
Already completed the task, but no post was made. Actually, my friend just purchased an RTX 2060 from Gigabyte. The card performed perfectly, all 10 startups functioned as expected. I’m back with my GTX 780 now, and everything is working fine. It’s strange because when 1660 runs smoothly, it still works. The issue seems to be with booting to certain programs—only about 1 in every 4 to 5 times. Probably I should return the card.
If it functions in 2060, the 1660 should also work well. Likely a faulty component. It would be wise to verify it on a different device.
