Issue with black screen or flickering when connecting DP cable above 60 fps/Hz
Issue with black screen or flickering when connecting DP cable above 60 fps/Hz
Usually I connect with a DP cable to link to my 144Hz display. Recently, the screen has been flickering and sometimes going completely black for several seconds. It becomes so severe that it can take minutes before I can react, whether I'm playing games or browsing the web. This issue doesn’t seem linked to high-intensity activities. When I reduce the monitor’s refresh rate to 120Hz, the problem disappears, but it reappears at 60Hz. Switching to an HDMI cable has resolved the problem at 144Hz. I suspect the original DP cable might be the culprit. Unfortunately, after purchasing a new one, the issue continues. I’ve also tried using DDU, but Freesync remains off. I appreciate any advice on what could be causing this problem.

Which BIOS version are you running for your motherboard?

Is your monitor still covered by warranty?
The alternative solution I tried was connecting via HDMI instead of the DP cable, and it functioned smoothly at 144Hz with HDMI.
You're using 1080p, but switching to HDMI seems unnecessary if you're already on 144Hz. I noticed no mention of FreeSync or Adaptive Sync being exclusive to DP.
I suspected the issue might lie with the DP cable I was using. Unfortunately, the new cable didn't resolve the problem.
Do you have a link to the cable you purchased?
Hello, thank you for your question.
What BIOS version do you have installed on your motherboard?
BIOS Version/Date American Megatrends International, LLC. F25, 31/08/2023
Is your monitor still covered by warranty?
My monitor isn’t under warranty because I’m not in the US, and returning it for RMA would likely be more expensive and time-consuming than purchasing a replacement.
Why do you need to go back to DP?
I use this monitor with my work laptop, PC, and gaming console—three inputs and three ports: one DP (PC), two HDMI (laptop, console). If the DP isn’t functioning correctly, I’d constantly have to move behind the desk to connect or disconnect the HDMI cable whenever I need to use the console or PC.
Do you have a link to the cable you received?
The first one came with the monitor and worked perfectly until this began to happen. The new one is from a generic brand, but both are experiencing the same problem, so I’m pretty sure it’s the cables.
BIOS update information is available for this model.
At this stage, I question whether the issue lies with the cables.
If the updated cable functions on another monitor using the same high refresh rate, it can be dismissed. Otherwise, there are numerous discussions about damaged cables over time or low-quality products. A standard branded cable also doesn't give much reassurance.
