Issue with black display when Windows 8.1 launches.
Running Windows 8.1 on a self-built system. Just a few days ago I noticed a black screen right after the Windows logo but before the welcome screen. It appears for about 5 to 12 seconds. I've tried disabling automatic driver updates, reinstalled Nvidia drivers (including GTX 770), and kept startup minimal with only Avast and Malwarebytes. It seems none of these are triggering the issue. I also ran a diagnostic bootup that only shows core services. Still no clear cause. Any suggestions or fixes? I've updated the drivers from Nvidia's site.
The black screen could indicate a temporary system issue or software glitch. It might happen after the Windows logo because of a malfunction, background process, or hardware problem. This usually signals that something needs attention to restore normal operation.
I see, the Windows circular boot display appears, followed by a 10-second pause before logging in.
Hi! Glad you reached out. You're using an HDMI cable and haven't used VGA recently, so it's possible a service or background process is interfering. Since your startup programs are minimal, it might be related to system updates or background apps. Check if any new software has been installed recently or if there are pending updates that could affect startup behavior.
