Issue with black display and sudden failure on RTX 3070 graphics card.
Hey there, I’m trying to figure out some performance problems after upgrading from 980ti to RTX 3070. At first it worked great, but after a few months I started facing these recurring issues. The game would randomly crash to a black screen with sound still playing for a bit before the PC became unresponsive. Sometimes I could sleep in and wake it up, and it would just crash again. Other times I’d wake it up and see the display misaligned or at wrong resolution, then after a few seconds trying to log in it would crash hard. Occasionally it was a full crash from the start.
I tested other titles and they all worked fine—both on my old 980ti and after the upgrade. I checked for thermal limits, maxed out usage, used MSI Afterburner and diagnostic tools with Furmark, but nothing specific came up. I even changed the monitor resolution from 3440x1440 to 1080p, which helped a bit, though performance was still lower than expected. I ran Furmark on a 1440 UltraWide and it worked for hours without problems, but games still crashed there.
I’m really stuck and would appreciate any advice or help. Thanks!
Navigate to the event viewer, select Windows logs, filter for errors and critical alerts. Display results chronologically. Attach the screen recording if needed.
Have you discovered any fix? You've been experiencing this same problem, causing crashes in games such as Ark Survival and Rainbow Six. After returning the card, they stated testing lasted 17 hours with no issues detected, leaving me confused. I've followed every instruction: DDU safe mode clean install, Nvidia recommended driver version, and a fresh Windows installation, yet nothing resolved it. The challenge is the issue isn't consistently reproducible—I've faced problems during stress tests, aside from furmark, which occasionally triggered the problem.
