My laptop - Asus Vivobook X412DA (8GB RAM, Ryzen 3500U) after plugging it in for charge, I chose not to restart it again. Instead, I only see the charging indicator. The activity LED (lightbulb icon) lights up and then turns off whenever I press the power button. I kept holding the button for over 30 seconds, unplugged the battery, tried everything but nothing worked. After removing the removable RAM, it booted once, but after a reboot it returned to the same problem. I repeated this with and without the RAM, but no signs of life appeared. The fan isn’t spinning and the USB ports aren’t supplying power either. The only indication is that the laptop is getting power through the LEDs.

Any advice on what to do next? Since it’s out of warranty, the local service center will likely suggest replacing the entire motherboard, which would be as expensive as buying a new laptop.

Thanks for your help and let me know if you need more details.

You might attempt to take apart the laptop once it's disconnected from the power source, detach the internal battery, remove the RAM modules, then apply pressure to the power button for thirty seconds to release any remaining energy. Use an eraser to clean the gold contacts on the RAM sticks (not the slots), remove any dust or residue, and reinsert one stick if applicable. Power the device using the power brick instead of the battery, and check if it restarts. Based on your description, it seems the motherboard could be damaged. A multimeter and patience would help determine the extent of the short. It’s advisable to bring the laptop to a nearby repair shop for professional evaluation.

This laptop has a single soldered RAM module and a detachable RAM stick. It worked once with the stick installed, but not after removing it. I plan to take it to a local repair shop soon to resolve this issue.
