New battery did not fix it. I have not rolled back the BIOS. Still a little more left in the work day. I'll roll back the BIOs later. Thanks for the suggestion.

It's not very clear if I can revert my BIOS settings. Asus technical support didn't advise doing so. Some users are facing issues with this BIOS and have reported that 2004 was programmed to prevent rollback—see the link: https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.ph...-flashback. I placed the previous BIOS (1720) in the flashback port and tried to flash it again. Almost immediately, the motherboard OLED displayed "UPDATE DID NOT COMPLETE," and the BIOS failed to roll back. I plan to try later, but this option seems unavailable now.

This release contains numerous ME improvements and enhancements for the upcoming CPU. The latest build does not support reverting to earlier versions, including through USB BIOS FlashBack™, to maintain optimal compatibility.

I own a ROG MAXIMUS X FORMULA and enjoy keeping it updated. I encountered a problem once before where flashing the BIOS stopped the device from turning on. There was also a conversation about RMA removing water cooling, which seemed risky since I wasn't sure if residual water would remain. Clearing the CMOS helped restore functionality, but restoring from a saved profile often reset everything. Now I clear the CMOS, manually set up my preferences, and save the changes instead of restoring from saved. I’ve also started taking photos of each BIOS page before updating, so I can reconfigure it later. That said, there are around three BIOS revisions left—if it works fine, flashing should be safe.

So, sorry I haven't made this clearer - I do not have "settings". I am running default BIOS settings. This is a work PC - I have no video card, I am using onboard video,, onboard LAN, etc. I play no games and tweak absolutely nothing. I have cleared the CMOS - then when it loads BIOS after clearing CMOS I select "save and exit" where it then warns me, "you've made no changes," before I click "OK" and it reboots. This does not fix the problem. Thanks for the suggestion, though. I've had people at the ROG site make the same suggestion. Sadly, this doesn't work for me.

To be clear, I've updated the BIOS based on recommendations from here, other sources, and Asus. Unfortunately, I can't revert the BIOS because Asus has locked it to stop that. I've reset the CMOS and replaced the battery. It's likely not the power supply since the unit is only a year old and Asus claims it uses 100% Japanese capacitors. I'm planning to get a replacement PSU to rule that out. Thanks for all the advice.

it's safe to try another PSU with it. Plus, the original one isn't that good either.

I haven’t received any complaints about the Thor, though I’ve observed it. There have been no issues with it. I’m definitely considering replacing it to eliminate any doubt. It’s an 850W power supply that likely never exceeds around 400W, and rarely reaches that level. Although it might not be the top choice, I wouldn’t question it unless Asus claims otherwise; capacitor sag is what’s being blamed, and that shouldn’t be the cause.

I'm glad to say I was mistaken. I would have spent the extra twenty dollars and taken the trip to get it locally if I hadn't been as sure it wasn't the power supply. I'm not entirely sure it was the issue, but I'm definitely over 50% certain now. The power supply arrived late last night from Amazon (after a Friday game—my daughter is in the marching band), so I waited until this morning to replace it. Looking back at earlier advice, I realized I had cleared the CMOS and changed the battery as recommended, but I missed a key step: removing the battery and holding the clear CMOS button for fifteen seconds before reinserting it. I followed that procedure while changing the power supply, and now everything works smoothly—three consecutive boots without issues. I adjusted two settings at once, making it hard to pinpoint which caused the fix. Even though I spent about twenty-four hours working on the machine over three days, nothing went wrong during my sessions. Thank you all for your help; I'm back to normal and won't rush into updates again.
