Issue with Arch Linux font settings
Nonsense: Arch communities tend to stay respectful and welcoming, especially for beginners, with plenty of resources available. Regarding your problem, I recall installing fonts via pacman in that forum a long time ago—maybe it could help now?
it was just a quick chat about a challenge I faced with getting something to function. the conversation brought up package counts. obviously, most people mentioned around 700 packages, while my main focus was on figuring out how to embed content in the browser—before Flash was phased out by HTML5, and I really wanted to enjoy YouTube videos without dealing with those extra installation hurdles.
It's common in many areas, which is why I often play the newbie role (even here sometimes if you notice). It's useful when you don't want to argue with someone who writes technical papers and you can simply say, "I think I'm not an expert and would trust your opinion." This helps avoid unnecessary conflicts.
This feedback makes sense once you consider the time and effort needed to customize Arch. It’s not directly connected to the topic we’re discussing. I tend to view fixing Arch as more manageable compared to Ubuntu and its variants, even though it can be fragile. The thorough documentation and hands-on approach help with troubleshooting. Ultimately, it comes down to the user—while Arch might be overwhelming at first, it can be a valuable learning experience once mastered.
maybe it's just my quirks, but for me it's simpler to trim lubuntu down to a minimal version than to upgrade arch to a stable state. at some point my server ran a lubuntu setup that needed about 200MB of memory with apache and other services, plus the desktop and remote connection tool.
It sounds like you were surprised by something quite basic about Linux. You're right—knowing everything about Arch isn’t necessary to get started.
