You're suggesting the RAM preview ends early since its duration is tied to the length of the AE project.

Your RAM previews depend on the available memory in Adobe After Effects and how much is needed for previews. I’m using 6GB of my 8GB installed, which lets me preview around 25-35 seconds at full quality for most projects. You might want to lower the playback quality manually to free up RAM per frame and extend your playback time!
