Issue with abrupt and severe slowdown during software operation
This is running on an MSI Katana 15 B12V laptop equipped with a 12th gen i7, 32GB RAM at 4800 Mhz, purchased only three months ago.
Issue began yesterday; all applications are operating very slowly (Discord, Spotify, games, Unity).
Performance problems include models loading in 7 minutes and extremely high frame rates (thunder thunder).
Task manager showed CPU usage under 10% with Spotify and Tarkov running, while GPU usage remained at 1 to 0%.
All software performance was poor—slow mouse movements, long loading times.
Resource monitor indicated CPU reached 100% max frequency, but actual usage stayed in single digits.
I have attempted:
- Checking Device Manager, which displayed hazard symbols and error code 32, prompting removal of drivers via Device Manager
- Reinstalling CPU and GPU drivers
- Editing the Registry Editor at Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\intelppm\Start and changing value from 3 to 4
- Updating to the latest Windows 11 version
- Reinstalling Windows 11 via Settings > Recovery > Reset this PC
- Running sfc /scannow from the Command Prompt
- Adjusting Nvidia Control Panel to set preferred graphics processor to High-performance NVIDIA processor
What other steps could be taken now?
Is the malware scanning the system? Is the CPU temperature monitoring? How much space is available on the SSD?
Windows Defender reports restricted access for the IT administrator and indicates the attempted item isn't available. Afterburner displays performance metrics: clock at 210 MHz, memory usage peaks at 405MHz, voltage remains at 0mV, temperature reaches 48°C. Storage details: two M.2 drives, C drive has 463 free of 931GB, D drive shows 170 free of 1.86TB.
Man heres the big issue, I got this laptop when I was in Hong Kong (for context im in the UK for my university) so I'm not quite sure whether it covers where I am now, though I can get the details soon and see if thats possible
