Issue with 128GB storage – four 32GB DDR5 modules – yellow illumination – system fails to boot
Hello, I recently assembled a new PC with these parts: CPU 7950X, RAM kit of two KINGSTON FURY 64GB Beast DDR5 modules at 4800MHz, cooler ARCTIC COOLING Liquid Freezer III, GPU ZOTAC ZT-D40820Q, GeForce RTX 4080, 16GB GDDR6X with DLSS3, SSD WD 2TB Black SN850X M.2, and a 12M pure power PSU. When I fill all four RAM slots, the system freezes with a black screen and a yellow light on the motherboard. I've tested different configurations, updated BIOS, removed and reinserted the CPU, checked cables, and even adjusted the RAM speed settings, but nothing resolves the issue. Have others faced the same problem or have you found a fix?
It's usually tough to work with just four sticks. There are some discussions online about this, like on Reddit for the BuildAPC community. It seems tweaking might be necessary, don't press me—I'm not or Zen 4. Still, searching Google often shows up issues with 7950x and four RAM modules.
Trying to run four DDR5 modules on a Ryzen has been challenging. Since I haven’t worked with AM5 components before, I’m guessing but for my setup using AM4, I’d need to boost the DRAM current capacity from the standard 100% up to at least 120% otherwise the system might crash unexpectedly. Perhaps you can achieve this too—just boot with two sticks, configure it, power off the machine, then reinsert the remaining sticks and attempt to start again. You might also need to slightly increase the SOC and VDDP voltages beyond their defaults. Be careful with the SOC level; avoid going above 1.3V if you’re already close.
Is the DRAM voltage adjusted slightly? Does your component appear in the MOMO's QVL?
My system has a 7900X with 4x48GB DDR5 5200 RAM, but the 7950X seems to be quite another.
I started up successfully using the standard configuration and three drives. When I tried inserting them into the second, third, and fourth positions, it worked fine. It seems the first DIMM slot isn’t functioning properly—there’s a slight looseness inside it, but it operates without issue.
