Hi everyone, I’m experiencing issues with gameplay and streaming on YouTube or anime. The videos often stutter, freeze, or stop completely. When I close the game window, the video usually restarts normally, though sometimes I need to refresh the page. Initially, I thought it was due to Chrome, so I switched to Firefox, but the problem persists. My system is powerful—high-end CPU, GTX 4070, 12GB RAM, 1000W PSU, Corsair components, and a set of monitors (three 27" G51C QHD at 165Hz). I’m considering swapping the graphics card to a lower model like GTX 5050 to see if that helps.
What's your temperature and usage? It might be overheating the CPU or straining the GPU.
Conditions are favorable, with sessions typically under 60 minutes and peak levels around 70.
Are you streaming on YouTube, Twitch, or another platform and which game is active? It might be a bandwidth problem. Have you reduced the video quality? Try turning on the 'stats for nerds' overlay to check for dropped frames, frame buffer issues, or similar problems.
This problem is likely something you'll need to handle yourself. Computers can manage multiple tasks well, as long as resources like RAM and GPU aren't overwhelmed (i.e., they're not maxed out). I'd begin by checking your RAM first. Also, avoid using the edge browser—it tends to be bloated with ads and unwanted software.
12900k offers solid performance but struggles with heat. Ofc has changed a lot, yet it remains a good CPU. I own one and it runs most systems smoothly. I haven’t found any game that really limits my speed. I can even process 4K images with AI during Cyberpunk while gaming. RAM usage is close to optimal in those cases. Since I only have 64GB, I’m considering switching to an iGPU for YouTube videos. That way the GPU can focus on gaming instead of handling video loads. One reason I hesitated was the 12900KF’s lower performance due to a faulty GPU. It’s frustrating.
Multiplane Overlay might be the cause of the problem. I experienced the same issue with a multi-monitor configuration before. You can turn off MPO by editing the driver or modifying the registry. The simplest method is in the registry: navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > dwm Create DWORD: "OverlayTestMode" and set its value to "00000005". Restart your PC. Essentially, MPO is a power-saving feature that is usually turned on by default. Search for "MPO causes stutter" on Google to see many solutions where people disable it.
It seems adjusting MPO settings can be challenging right now. I came across a discussion about disabling MPO in 2025 on TechPowerUp Forums. There’s talk of a "MPOOFF" tool being created, but it’s still in development. Perhaps the safest approach is to modify the GPU driver installation to strip MPO at the driver level. I haven’t tried this before.
