The setup involves two PCs connected to the same router, placed side by side. Most tasks are handled from the main machine and files move through the wired link. The main issue arises during large file transfers—especially when dealing with files over 10GB. Once the connection drops, a warning appears indicating no internet access or inability to reconnect except directly. Restarting the entire system is the only solution, which slows down the process. I usually rely on USB drives for photos and projects, but they’re cumbersome compared to a single transfer. Occasionally, transfers succeed, other times not. The problem seems inconsistent. Here’s what I’ve tried:

1. Tested PC-to-PC over Ethernet—it functions.
2. Currently use Folder Sharing; no advanced settings.
3. Tried Homegroup; same issue persists.
4. Updated drivers and purchased a network card; still no improvement.
5. Network configuration includes an Asus RT-AC66U_B1 router and a Netgear CM700 modem.
6. Both systems run Windows 10, with all drivers updated.
7. Sharing options are enabled so devices appear on the network.
8. I’ve explored router settings thoroughly but can’t pinpoint the cause.

It’s frustrating—I’m not sure what’s wrong despite checking everything. Can you help me figure it out?

Are they assigning dynamic IP addresses or using fixed ones? This seems unusual based on a situation we encountered at work: examine the configuration of the network interface cards. In our case, one was configured to enter sleep mode when idle, but the criteria felt too vague. Keeping the NICs in active state resolved the connectivity problem.

I observed consistent high network consumption on both sides before the issue began. After adjusting the power settings, usage dropped significantly—from nearly zero to up to 90%. The HTPC only crashed during testing. I’m currently halfway through a 30GB transfer of a 200GB file.

The change from "sleep" to "full use" in power management is proving effective. I'm currently halfway through a 200GB transfer at 30GB already completed. Update confirms it succeeded. No complications encountered. Would have missed this if not for checking power management. Looking forward to updating after another major backup or transfer.
